Homewood History
Homewood sits on the edge of prehistoric Lake Chicago—which was formed by retreating glaciers long before Lake Michigan. Ridge Road, one of the main east-west roads in town runs along the old shoreline of that lake. The first settlers arrived in the area in 1834.

Local Transit
The major north-south roads are Halsted St and Kedzie Ave. Park Ave and Governors Hwy run straight through town. Homewood is also close to i-80, i-57 and i-294—which allow commuters easy access to Chicago/ Indiana.

Amtrak— provides service to Kankakee and points south through Tennessee, Mississippi and New Orleans.
Metra Electric—provides service from Blue Island to Chicago’s Millennium Station.
