    Flossmoor History
    In 1891, the Illinois Central Railroad purchased 160 acres of land west of the rail line/ north of Flossmoor Road. In the 1890’s they sold the property for development and sponsored a contest to select a name for the Village. “Floss Moor” (a Scotch name for “dew on the heather/ gentle rolling countryside”) was selected.

    Local Transit
    Flossmoor has many different major roadways. Pulaski runs along the west side of the village. Governors Highway and Park Avenue run through town. Flossmoor is also close to i-80, i-57 and i-294—which allow commuters easy access to Chicago/ Indiana.

    Flossmoor is serviced by the Metra Electric District, which runs from Blue Island to Millennium Station. The Flossmoor Station is on Flossmoor Rd and Sterling Ave.
