Burr Ridge History
Glaciers from the last ice age carved Burr Ridge’s hills. In 1917 the International Harvester Company purchased land for an experimental farm (where they tested the world’s first all-purpose tractor). In the 1940s Denver Busby bought land that became known as the Burr Ridge dairy farm and he launched the Burr Ridge Estates. In 1956 residents decided to incorporate the area as the village of Harvester (to honor the International Harvester). In 1961 the International Harvester Company and the Burr Ridge Estates merged—changing the village’s name to Burr Ridge.
